Welcome to the Scottish Detector Club

Scotland’s Oldest Metal Detecting Club — Established 1977

About Us

The Scottish Detector Club was formed in 1977, and it proudly stands as Scotland’s oldest metal detecting club. Since then, the club has continued to grow and promote the hobby throughout the country.

In fact, the main aim of the club is to promote the hobby of metal detecting to the general public. Furthermore, we aim to provide practical help and advice to anyone who would like to explore this fascinating pastime. As a result, many new members have discovered a rewarding and educational hobby through our guidance.

In addition, we organise regular club outings throughout the year. These trips mainly take place across the Lothians, Borders, and Fife regions. Occasionally, we also arrange weekend excursions to rallies in England, which allow members to meet and share experiences with other enthusiasts. Therefore, our activities offer a perfect balance between local exploration and wider adventures.

Monthly Meetings

The club meets on the first Monday of each month at 7.30pm at:

Prestonpans Labour Supporters Club
5 Kirk Lane
Prestonpans
EH32 9EA

Importantly, the venue is fully wheelchair accessible, with ramps at both the main entrance and the meeting hall. Consequently, everyone can participate comfortably and safely.

Please note, however, that no meeting is held in January.

Moreover, anyone who would like to join the club is very welcome to attend a meeting. Membership runs from the AGM in April until the end of March the following year, and it includes membership of the National Council for Metal Detecting (NCMD). Additionally, members receive updates on rallies, outings, and upcoming events.

Besides our regular meetings and events, the club also offers a free “search and recovery” service to the public for lost jewellery, keys, tools, and other items. For example, if someone loses a wedding ring on a beach or in a garden, one of our experienced members can assist in finding it. As a result, our work often helps people recover valuable possessions while promoting a positive image of the hobby.
